Year 1

Welcome to Beetles & Ladybirds

Welcome back!

We hope you have had a fantastic Christmas break and feel refreshed ready for the new term! During Spring Term, our topic is Dinosaurs. Year 1 will be exploring the history of dinosaurs from their extinction to when the first fossils were discovered. The children will also be taking part in ‘Dinosaur Day’ within school, where they will become palaeontologists and will also be making our own dinosaur habitats.

We will be reading lots of different dinosaur books such as: ‘Dinosaurs Love Underpants’ and ‘Harry and the Dinosaurs’ First Sleepover’, also linking non-fiction writing to these by creating dinosaur fact files and dinosaur poems.

The children should be reading and practising their spellings each evening. New reading books will be given out every Wednesday  and Friday and new spellings on Fridays. Optional homework will be set on Seesaw each Friday.

Family learning about our topic is greatly welcomed throughout the Spring term! We are excited to welcome the children back into school, ready for another term of success and progress!

Thank you for your continued support.

These books are read as class texts over the course of the year to encourage positive and guided discussion of the protected characteristics. At Westfield, we strive to create an environment where children can share their opinions and ask questions.
