  • Well Being Week

    Published 17/05/22

The last week of the Spring term is always our ‘Well-being themed week’. We follow the theme of the 5 Ways to Well-being, and also kindness!

We all had such a great week and there were so many fun and fabulous activities going on! We began the week with a dress up day (favourite colours), there were active workshops - archery and team building (led by Surrey Outdoor Learning), Easter egg hunts, an art ‘Brush Party’, compliment cards, 5 ways to well-being posters, decorating biscuits and so much more!

  • Children’s Mental Health Week

    Published 08/03/22

We all had a great week celebrating, learning about, raising the profile of and reducing the stigma of mental health. We know it’s okay not to be okay and to ask for help. We also know that there are many things we can do to help ourselves and we learnt lots during this week.

The children took part in many varied activities, for example, breathing techniques, making and using stress socks, creating jars of happiness, learning song and dance routines with positive messages (for example the power of yet, brave face etc), mindfulness colouring, making well-being dice, sewing and much more!

  • New School Rules - "The Westfield Way"

    Published 14/01/22

Last term, Westfield’s School Council committee worked extremely hard to revisit and recreate our rules, to be implemented across the entire school.

Through careful analysis of the school-wide survey responses, and detailed discussion, the School Council pupils produced ‘The Westfield Way’.

The idea being that these four simple, memorable ways to behave in school encompass what is most important here at Westfield:

There was a Remembrance day webinar, and the children all had the opportunity to purchase poppies and other items from The Royal British Legion. We raised a staggering £520, an amazing total -  a big thank you to everyone.

  • World mental health day

    Published 16/11/21

On Friday 8th October we celebrated World Mental Health Day by joining in with Young Minds’ #hello yellow day. Everyone was encouraged to wear some yellow on the day to raise awareness and remind young people that they are not alone with their mental health.

We all had a great day and all the yellow made us smile, as yellow seems such a cheerful colour!

We got involved in different activities during the day, including Bollywood dance workshops for Years 1 to 3 and also a ‘positive post-it’ activity—where we all wrote positive things or things we were grateful for on a yellow post-it. We have displayed many of these in school!

  • Shoebox Appeal

    Published 29/09/21

We are very excited to announce that we will be supporting Link to Hope’s Shoebox Appeal again this year. We have last year’s enormous success of 47 boxes to beat!

The special Shoeboxes of gifts are given to families who often have to make a choice between buying food or fuel at Christmas time – buying presents is just not a priority. Many of these families do not have running water, heating or electricity. Some live in appalling conditions, often living in just one or two rooms, and life for them is a real struggle to survive.

A shoebox for a family means that everyone receives a gift.  A scarf for the mum, a tape measure for the dad, toys and games for the children as well as stationery and coloured pens.  Also toiletries, toothpaste, shampoo and soap to keep everyone clean and free from the germs that make them ill. And of course sweets and chocolates for everyone – a family favourite!

We are kindly asking for monetary donations (for example 50p or £1), as well as empty shoeboxes and seasonal wrapping paper please. We will then use this money to buy items to fill and wrap all of our shoeboxes just as we usually do.

The deadline is Thursday 21st October (before half term).

COMPETITION—the class that raises the most money will get to enjoy a CAMPFIRE AFTERNOON during well-being time on a Friday!  This includes toasting marshmallows, singing songs and sharing stories.
