Have fun Reading

At Westfield, our central mission is to support all children to become lifelong readers by empowering them to develop a love of sharing stories that grows to a lifetime enjoyment of reading.
We pledge to provide all children with many opportunities to listen to, and read high quality texts, enjoy and share books as well as being exposed to a language rich environment, which provides access to many different types of print.
As a school, we provide many reading opportunities with our children such as: guided reading, ‘Bug club’, paired reading with other year groups, Let’s Read, Whole class reading, use of the school library and the book swap shed.
Reading plays a vital role in a child’s learning throughout their time at school. In every subject, our children are required to use their reading skills to read various texts and questions. It is important that we teach our children that reading opens up many avenues in their learning and imagination.
There are many ways in which you can help support your child’s love of reading through reading at home every night, visiting our book swap shed, accessing ‘Bug club’ online and even sharing your own favourite books before bedtime.
If you would like more information about how to support your child’s reading then you are welcome to come and join us at one of our reading workshops.
